Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) is back in the Milwaukee Brewers lineup.
Hoskins was officially activated off the injured list on Friday night. He is batting sixth as the designated hitter.
Hoskins, who has been out since May 14 with a right hamstring strain, was reportedly mulling over taking a brief minor league rehab assignment or returning to the big league club to play against the White Sox at home. He chose the latter.
His manager Pat Murphy is happy to have him back. He told reporters in Milwaukee that Hoskins was “miserable not contributing.”
Barring another injury popping up over the weekend, Hoskins should be in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. His first plate appearance will be his first at Citizens Bank Park since Game 5 of the 2022 World Series. He missed all of 2023 after tearing his ACL in spring training.
Hoskins is in the first season of a two-year, $34 million deal with Milwaukee that includes an opt out after the 2024 season. He’s proving to be a great pickup for the upstart Brewers, who lead the National League Central over the St. Louis Cardinals by five games. Hoskins is slashing .233/.340/.474 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs in 38 games.
Monday is sure to be an emotional day at Citizens Bank Park, regardless of whether or not Hoskins was going to play. Hoskins, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Phillies in 2014 and debuted in 2017, was one of the first homegrown players to emerge as a major contributor during the Phillies’ rebuild.
