Brandon Marsh ‘looking for a pretty quick turnaround’ from hamstring injury

The Philadelphia Phillies announced Monday afternoon that they have placed left fielder Brandon Marsh on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.

Additionally, utility-man Kody Clemens — who was scratched from Sunday’s lineup — has also been placed on the 10-day injured list with low back spasms. His placement is retroactive to May 31.

To replace Marsh and Clemens, the Phillies have recalled utility-man Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and selected the contract of David Dahl. To make room for Dahl on the 40-man roster, RHP Michael Rucker was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Marsh left Sunday’s loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in the bottom of the eighth inning with a right hamstring strain that he sustained while running around first base. He initially tried to stay in, but after rounding second, he alerted the coaching staff and was taken out of the game.

Now 26, Marsh has an .884 OPS against right-handed pitching this season, along with seven defensive runs saved as well. He’s obviously a big loss, especially considering the Phillies have been without shortstop Trea Turner — who is rehabbing a strained left hamstring — for nearly a month. Marsh didn’t compare his hamstring injury to Turner’s, but it doesn’t sound like he expects to be sidelined as long as Turner has.

“It’s just a mild hamstring strain,” Marsh said in the Phillies’ clubhouse before Monday’s game.

“It’s a little early right now, we’re still just trying to just treat and assess it right now,” Marsh added when asked about his timeline. “No timetable, but looking for a pretty quick turnaround.”

An All-Star with the Colorado Rockies in 2019, Dahl was hitting at a torrid pace at Triple-A, with a .340/.416/.660 slash line, 12 home runs and a 1.076 OPS. Dahl is immediately being thrown into the fire, as he’ll hit seventh and play left field Monday evening against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wilson, meanwhile, has just a .685 OPS in 51 games for the IronPigs this season. However, he hit 31 home runs at Triple-A a season ago, and had some impressive moments across eight games with the Phillies as well.
