The Phillies on Wednesday morning officially announced the club’s first jersey patch sponsorship with local health insurance provider Independence Blue Cross (IBX).
The press conference, which included remarks from Phillies managing partner John Middleton and IBX president and CEO Gregory E. Deavens, ended with the unveiling of the new patch on the sleeves of the jersey.
Here’s Aaron Nola modeling the patch on the home pinstripes:
And here’s what the patch looks like on the road gray, cream, powder blue and city connect uniforms:
Middleton declined to reveal the length and financial terms of the new agreement. The New York Yankees, for example, signed a deal with Starr Insurance in 2023 for around $25 million per season, according to a report.
The new patch will make its debut during Wednesday’s series finale against New York. Right-handed batters and pitchers will wear the sleeve on the left sleeve while the left-handed batters and pitchers will have the patch on their right-hand side.

I am against commercializing baseball more than it already is. We’re bombarded with ads at every turn at the ballpark. This cheapens the game in a way, and makes it more like NASCAR, which sucks. I’m really disappointed. I was so proud that the Phillies hadn’t gone that direction, and now our players are also billboards. BOOOOOOOOO!
I hate it, going to look like a nascar race soon.
Booooooooo. Disgusting. Everywhere you look there’s an intrusive ad. Now this garbage.
Betting, split screen intrusive commercials, ugly commercial sleeve patches, rotating ads on billboards behind home plate, scrolling ads at top of screen, the (carname) good deal of the game, the fielding play of the game brought to you by (name company), the Draft King interruption enticing you to place your bet. Won’t be surprised when we see The Backdoor Slider of the game brought to you by Preparation H. Please MLB do an examination of conscience and reel in your greedy impulses. Your classlessness is worsening. And some of th City Direct uniforms look like clown suits.
Maybe they can afford hitting lessons now?
