The Phillies have made a trade with the Chicago White Sox. It’s not the one everyone was hoping for.

The club has acquired left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks from the White Sox, per Robert Murray of FanSided.

Banks, 32, has a 4.13 ERA in 41 appearances with Chicago this season. He was a starting pitcher earlier in his minor league career, but converted to the bullpen in 2021. Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports that he will be a multi-inning reliever for the Phillies and could start again in the future. He is under team control through the 2028 season.

Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports that William Bergolla, the Phillies’ No. 10 prospect according to Baseball America, is the prospect heading to Chicago.

We’ll have more on this story as more information becomes available.
