Trea Turner, Alec Bohm named All-Star starters

Three-fourths of the National League’s starting infield at the Midsummer Classic in Texas will be Philadelphia Phillies.

Trea Turner and Alec Bohm won the fan vote at their respective positions and will join Bryce Harper as starters for the National League All-Star team. Turner and Bohm are the first Phillies duo on the left side of the infield to win the fan vote since Jimmy Rollins and Scott Rolen in 2002. Harper, who automatically advanced after receiving the most votes among all NL position players in round one, is the first Phillie since John Kruk in 1993 to win the fan vote at first base.

Bohm crushed the Padres’ Manny Machado in fan voting, picking up 70% of the vote. He is in the middle of his best season yet, slashing .297/.349/.484 with 10 home runs and 68 RBIs. His .834 OPS is tops among all qualified third baseman in the National League.

Turner narrowly defeated the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts in the fan vote, 51% to 49%. Through 46 games, Turner is slashing .338/.386/.487 with five home runs, 18 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

J.T. Realmuto fell short in fan voting at catcher, losing to the Brewers’ William Contreras. Kyle Schwarber, unsurprisingly, came in second behind the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani for the fan vote at designated hitter. Brandon Marsh and Nick Castellanos did not make the cut in All-Star fan voting in the outfield.

2024 marks the first time since 2012 the Phillies will have more than two representatives at the All-Star Game. They should have at least one more in the rotation as Ranger Suárez, Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sánchez are all candidates to get the nod. Matt Strahm and Jeff Hoffman could make the All-Star team in the bullpen.
