Final Score: Diamondbacks 12, Phillies 5
The Phillies dropped another series with an inauspicious 12-5 loss in Arizona to mercifully end a 4-6 West Coast trip.
The game started well with an Alec Bohm two-run double in the top of the first, plating Trea Turner and Bryce Harper.
Arizona got a run back in the bottom of the first after Cristopher Sanchez allowed three consecutive singles. Sanchez got into trouble early, allowing nine hits through three innings (already a career high). In the third, he surrendered an RBI double by Eugenio Suarez and a two-run single by Adrian Del Castillo, another run on a wild pitch and the D’Backs were up 5-2. He finished with 7 earned runs on 12 hits with 96 pitches over four and two-thirds innings.
Tanner Banks, Sanchez’s replacement in the fifth, did not fare much better. He immediately surrendered a three-run triple by McCarthy to extend Arizona’s lead to 8-2. Kevin Newman added a run in the sixth off Orion Kerkering. He went 3-for-3 on the day, as every Arizona batter recorded a hit.
Meanwhile Arizona’s Merrill Kelly was locked in after Bohm’s double in the first. He retired 12 of the next 14 Phillies batters.
The Phillies fought back in the seventh to bring the score to 9-5. Brandon Marsh knocked in a run breaking an 0-for-20 stretch and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Cal Stevenson made his first start in a Phillies uniform in center field and recorded his first hit and RBI in the inning. However Trea Turner’s inning-ending double-play stymied any potential rally.
Arizona quickly erased those runs with three of their own in the bottom of the seventh off Jose Alvarado, capped by a Corbin Carroll homer to close the scoring at 12-5.
The Phillies will return home on Tuesday when they open up a quick two-game set with the lowly Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park, with Taijuan Walker slated to make his return.

We all saw the original title lol. But with Walker coming back, unless he's some sort of good luck charms we need or something (which he won't be) we're gonna drop at least one to the Marlins. Hoping the Nats series goes well tho
A while back,I posted that the goal for the Phillies should be to arrive at Aug.12 without falling apart.
They have done just that, but it doesn't matter due to similar problems in the other NL East locales.
What does matter is post season seeding. The Dodgers have caught them and the Brewers aren't far behind. For the fantasy minded,2 AL teams have moved ahead of them and 1 has tied them.
Still, there is time to right the ship.
We are going to be doing very well if we can get home field advantage for the wildcard series. I believe the 1 and 2 seeds are history
