Prior to Monday’s game against the Houston Astros, left-handed pitcher José Alvarado was placed on the restricted list. The Phillies are calling it a “personal matter.” Right-handed pitcher Michael Mercado was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the 26-man roster.

Alvarado was in the Phillies clubhouse on Monday afternoon.

When asked postgame how long Alvarado could be away from the team, manager Rob Thomson said, “I have no idea.”

Earlier in the afternoon, the Phillies recalled infielder Buddy Kennedy and right-handed pitcher Max Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room on the roster for both players, left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard was optioned and Weston Wilson was placed on the paternity list.

We’ll have more on this story as more information is available.
