Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa will begin rehab assignments Saturday

The Philadelphia Phillies were crushed 11-3 in Friday night’s series opener against the New York Mets, but still had some positive news to reveal after the game.

Manager Rob Thomson announced postgame that third baseman Alec Bohm (left hand strain) and utility infielder Edmundo Sosa (back spasms) will both begin rehab assignments with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

Bohm is slated to play all nine innings at third base Saturday for the IronPigs, before DHing on Sunday. Thomson said that Bohm will need “hopefully just two” rehab appearances before returning to the Phillies. So if all goes well, he will rejoin the Phillies in Milwaukee as they try to wrap up the NL East and put themselves in position to get the No. 1 seed in the NL playoffs.

Sosa will play second base on Saturday, and either second or short on Sunday. He’s not eligible to return from the injured list until until Tuesday, but it’s sounded all along like he would only need the minimum 10 days on the IL.

Meanwhile, Kolby Allard will be recalled to pitch for the Phillies on Saturday against the Mets. The Phillies weren’t yet ready to announce a corresponding move after Friday’s loss.
