Final Score: Phillies 2, Rays 1

A great start by Cristopher Sánchez mixed with heroics from Kyle Schwarber and Kody Clemens helped the Philadelphia Phillies defeat the Tampa Bay Rays and secure their 86th win of the season Monday.

The were getting no-hit by the Tampa Bay Rays 5 1/3 innings into Monday’s series opener at Citizens Bank Park.

Enter, Kyle Schwarber.

The reigning NL Player of the Week took the final pitch of the evening made by Tampa Bay bulk arm Tyler Alexander and hit it 447 feet into the visitor’s bullpen. It ended the no-hit threat, sent Alexander to the showers and gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead:

Cristopher Sánchez was excellent over six shutout innings for the Phillies , limiting the Rays to just four hits. On the season, his ERA now sits at 3.33 across 165 frames. According to FanGraphs, his 4.6 WAR trails only Chris Sale, Tarik Skubal and Zack Wheeler among qualified starting pitchers.

But after clean innings from Orion Kerkering and Jeff Hoffman, Brandon Lowe put a charge into the second pitch that Carlos Estévez threw in his save attempt in the top of the ninth inning. Johan Rojas nearly made what would have been one of the catches of the season, but the ball instead fell out of his glove and over the wall, tying the game:

But in the bottom of the ninth inning, Kody Clemens came through with a walk-off single off of former Phillies farmhand Garrett Cleavinger that scored Bryce Harper to win the game.
