Final Score: Phillies 16, Marlins 2

The offense scored early and often. Zack Wheeler tossed a strong six innings. And now, with a win over the Marlins, the Phillies (85-56) are 29 games above .500, tying their season high.

Rob Thomson’s lineup recorded seven runs on nine hits in the first two innings against Miami starter Austin Kitchen. They continued to add on against the Marlins’ bullpen, finishing the night with a season-best 22 hits and scoring a season-high 16 runs. Four offensive starters — Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Kody Clemens and Johan Rojas — each recorded three hits. Turner finished a triple shy of the cycle. He also had 3 RBIs.

As for Wheeler, he continued his recent stretch of dominance. After posting a 1.62 ERA across six August starts, the veteran right-hander allowed one run on Friday night. He struck out seven batters while allowing two hits and walking one batter. Five of the six innings Wheeler pitched were of the 1-2-3 variety.
