The Phillies erased a 3-0 deficit in Game 2 of the NLDS, then lost the lead, then tied it up again, blew the game in the ninth and made it all worthwhile as Nick Castellanos delivered a walk-off RBI single, tying the NLDS against the Mets at a game apiece.
It all began with Bryce Harper’s two-run homer in the sixth, igniting the Citizens Bank Park crowd and giving the Phillies a semblance of momentum — which Castellanos (who else?) continued by tying it with a back-to-back shot of his own.
It was not all uphill from there. The Mets got the lead right back in the seventh with a Brandon Nimmo homer. Bryson Stott centered in a furious three-run eighth-inning rally, hitting a two-run double and scoring on an infield single.
They needed that insurance run. The Mets tied it in the ninth with a two-run homer by Mark Vientos, his second of the game. After Trea Turner and Bryce Harper walked with two outs, Castellanos came through.
The Phillies are alive. Game 3 is Tuesday.
