Phillies great Dick Allen will get another chance at earning election into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The late Phillies third baseman, first baseman and outfielder was announced as one of eight candidates on the 2025 Classic Baseball Era ballot.

A 16-person committee, which will be announced later in the fall, will cast their votes next month at the Winter Meetings in Dallas. The committees are usually compromised of notable former players, executives, owners, writers and historians. Any candidate that appears on at least 12 of the 16 ballots (75%) will earn election into the Hall of Fame. Those results will be announced on MLB Network on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Allen, who appeared on two previous Veterans Committee ballots, fell a vote shy of election in 2015 and 2022. If he gets at least 12 votes this time around, he will be celebrated during the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cooperstown, N.Y. in July 2025.

The seven other candidates are John Donaldson, Vic Harris, Ken Boyer, Steve Garvey, Tommy John, Dave Parker and Luis Tiant. Each member of the 16-person committee can vote for a maximum of five candidates.

Allen spent nine seasons with the Phillies across two stints from 1963-69 and 1975-76. He won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1964 with Philadelphia and the 1972 American League MVP with the Chicago White Sox. He batted .290 with 204 home runs and 655 RBIs over his nine years with the Phillies.

Allen first appeared on the Baseball Writers Association of America ballot in 1983, returned in 1985 and remained on the ballot until 1997. He never received more than 18.9% of the vote on the writers ballot.

The Phillies retired Allen’s No. 15 in Sept. 2020. Allen passed away on Dec. 7, 2020 in his hometown of Wampum, Pa.
