The Phillies are adding to their starting rotation. After multiple reports surfaced Sunday morning, the club has officially announced their acquisition of Jesús Luzardo from the Marlins. Robert Murray of FanSided was first to report the news.

Matt Gelb of The Athletic was first to report the package the Phillies are sending to Miami — 19-year-old shortstop Starlyn Caba and outfielder Emaarion Boyd. Caba was one of the Phillies’ top prospects. The club is also getting minor-league catcher Paul McIntosh alongside Luzardo. To make room for Luzardo on the 40-man roster, the club designated left-hander Tyler Gilbert for assignment.

Luzardo, 27, has a career 4.29 ERA in 105 appearances (89 starts). He was limited to 12 starts last season because of an early-season elbow issue and a lower-back injury that ended his season in mid-June. Luzardo doesn’t become a free agent until after the 2026 season. His addition gives the Phillies one of the deepest rotations in baseball.
