A pair of recent former Phillies players found new teams ahead of the 2025 season as Darick Hall and Cristian Pache are now on the move.
The power-hitting Hall is signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates on a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training, he confirmed to Phillies Nation on Thursday. The news was first reported by Steve Potter of PhilliesBaseballFan.com.
Pache, a superb defensive center fielder, agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.
Both players played parts of two seasons in Philadelphia; Hall made his big-league debut in 2022 and opened up 2023 as the team’s starting first baseman, while Pache joined the Phillies via trade early in the 2023 season and was traded at this past year’s trade deadline.
Hall, 29, played eight seasons in the Phillies organization after he was drafted in the 14th round in 2016. He was the club’s Paul Owens Award winner for the top minor-league position player in 2022 and is the all-time leader in home runs for Triple-A Lehigh Valley with 76. Known for his big power, the first baseman and designated hitter spent time in the middle of the Phillies’ batting order in 2022 as Bryce Harper dealt with an injury, and Hall was effective. However, a thumb injury derailed his next season, and his path to playing time closed when Harper moved to first base. Hall, who played the 2024 season in Lehigh Valley and hit 16 home runs, has a .700 OPS and 10 homers in 60 career major-league games.
The 26-year-old Pache, a former top prospect with the Braves and Athletics, carved out a role for himself in Philadelphia as a platoon outfielder against left-handed pitching in 2023, but he struggled to stay on the field. He didn’t have as much success in 2024 before the Phillies included him in a trade to Baltimore in exchange for Austin Hays.
Pache was later claimed off waivers by the Miami Marlins. A special fielder with a career .518 OPS in 251 games, he’ll join his sixth organization since making his major-league debut with Atlanta in 2020.
