Tom McCarthy, the longtime television voice of Philadelphia Phillies baseball, will be on hand to announce this weekend’s NFL Wild Card playoff matchup between the NFC’s Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers on national radio.
McCarthy will provide play-by-pay for the Westwood One radio broadcast as the game kicks off on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Eastern at Lincoln Financial Field. He’ll be joined by color commentator Ross Tucker, a former NFL offensive lineman and native of Wyomissing, Pa., and reporter Amber Theoharis.
A veteran sportscaster, McCarthy has been the Phillies’ full-time play-by-play commentator on NBC Sports Philadelphia (previously Comcast SportsNet) since 2009. He began his career in the major leagues with the Phillies in 2001 before departing for a two-year stint to do play-by-play on New York Mets radio broadcasts in 2006 and 2007. McCarthy returned to the Phillies in 2008, sliding into his current role following the death of legendary announcer Harry Kalas.
In addition to baseball, McCarthy does football work for Westwood One and calls some NFL and college basketball games on television for CBS.
With McCarthy on the call for this Sunday’s Eagles-Packers game on national radio, the local radio broadcast will have Hall of Fame announcer Merrill Reese on play-by-play, former Eagle Mike Quick as the color analyst and the newly added Devan Kaney as the sideline reporter for SportsRadio 94WIP and the Eagles Radio Network.
On television, FOX‘s No. 1 announcing crew will call the game with Kevin Burkhardt on play-by-play duties and seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady as the color commentator.
