MLB’s international signing period opened on Wednesday. Some teams have already announced their full class of signings. The Phillies are not one of those teams.
As it turns out, the Phillies are trading some of their bonus pool money to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who need some extra cash after winning the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes.
The Phillies have acquired minor league outfielder Dylan Campbell from the Dodgers for international bonus pool money, the team announced Friday night. Teams are allowed to acquire additional international bonus pool money in increments of $250,000.
Campbell, 22 was a fourth-round pick of the Dodgers in the 2023 MLB Draft. He spent all of 2024 in High A with the Great Lakes Loons, batting .251 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs in 493 plate appearances.
The Phillies, before the trade, had a $6.2616 million allocation to spend on amateur international free agents in this year’s signing period. Players born between Sept. 1, 2007 and Aug. 31, 2008 and older are eligible to sign in this period. Sasaki, who was posted by his NPB club the Chiba Lotte Marines, is considered an international free agent because he does not have enough NPB service time to become a major league free agent.
The Phillies reportedly have a deal for shortstop Nieves Izaguirre and 15 other players, according to the Baseball America international signings tracker.
The Dodgers’ 2025-26 signing pool allocation is $5.1462 million. Teams are allowed to acquire an additional 60% of their original bonus pool allocation. Sasaki is signing for $6.5 million, per Alden Gonzales of ESPN.
