The Phillies will still have to wait to see pitching phenom Paul Skenes, as their spring training matchup against the Pirates on Monday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla., was canceled due to inclement weather, the club announced.

Left-hander Cristopher Sánchez, an All-Star in 2024, was scheduled to face off with the electric young right-hander Skenes. Last year’s National League Rookie of the Year has never pitched against Philadelphia in his career. The Phillies are set to play Pirates two more times this spring on March 7 and March 18. The two Pennsylvania clubs meet for the first time in the regular season for a three-game series starting on May 16 at Citizens Bank Park.

Following the cancellation, the Phillies will play the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Fla., still searching for their first Grapefruit League win after dropping their first two games of the spring. There will be no local broadcast of the game.
