Phillies fans can expect to hear more of John Kruk and his wonderful stories and complaints for future broadcasts to come.

Kruk, a Phillies Wall of Fame former player and fan-favorite color commentator on local game telecasts, signed a four-year contract to continue with NBC Sports Philadelphia this offseason, per the reporting in a Friday afternoon feature story from Philadelphia magazine about Kruk, his path to his current role and his stature in the city. The three-time All-Star will keep calling Phillies games alongside veteran play-by-play voice Tom McCarthy as part of a group of regular analysts that also includes former Phillies outfielder and executive Ruben Amaro Jr. and former big-league catcher Ben Davis.

A 10-year major-league first baseman, Kruk played six seasons in Philadelphia and was a key member of the 1993 club that made an unexpected run to the World Series. He was always a personality that resonated with the fans, making him a great fit for the local broadcasting team.

After retiring as a player in 1995, Kruk joined ESPN in 2004 to do work in the studio. He later joined the network’s national “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcast for the 2013 season and served in that high-profile position for four years. Following his stint at ESPN

, Kruk was hired to call Phillies games on NBC Sports Philadelphia — then called Comcast SportsNet — and has starred in the booth since 2017.

It seems that the club and the broadcasting network have found a perfect fit in Kruk as he fills each game he calls with nostalgic anecdotes, sarcastic comments and entertaining — sometimes bizarre — observations that fans love. The Philadelphia magazine story, written by Jake Kring-Schreifels, provides a colorful look at Kruk’s style and standing as an announcer. It also notes that he plans to keep working for the foreseeable future, wishing to keep calling games through the duration of Bryce Harper’s 13-year contract with the Phillies that he signed in 2019.

  • Wish the Phillies broadcast both was more savy like the Mets both, and not so red neck. It' gets old during the course of a 162 game season
Kruck, while I love him, rambles barely coherently at times. And then goes rogue other times.
