Phillies manager Rob Thomson hinted after Wednesday’s game that he was ready to drop Alec Bohm in the batting order. When asked by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Corey Seidman if he is considering hitting Nick Castellanos, who is on a hot streak, higher in the lineup, Thomson smiled and said, “We’ll see tomorrow.”
Lo and behold, Castellanos is batting cleanup behind Bryce Harper in Thursday’s finale against the Atlanta Braves. Bohm, who is batting .178 with a .396 OPS on the year, drops to seventh. J.T. Realmuto is ahead of Bohm at sixth. As Matt Gelb of The Athletic noted, it is the lowest Bohm has batted in the Phillies lineup since July 28, 2023.
It’s been a rough stretch for Bohm. He struck out four times on Wednesday. His last extra-base hit came on Opening Day. It appears his slow start is wearing on him, judging by his body language after making outs.
At this time last year, Bohm was on an all-time heater. He entered the month of May with a 1.036 OPS in 128 plate appearances. The conversation centered around Bohm’s ascent to superstardom.
Now, many are wondering when Bohm will snap out of it. It’s his first continuous 10-game stretch with an OPS below .400 since April 2023. Despite the struggles, Thomson is adamant about keeping him in the lineup.
“He’s thinking about it, you know,” Thomson told reporters Wednesday night. “He’ll get out of it. I mean, this guy was the All-Star third baseman last year in the National League. I’m not going to pull the chute on him yet, despite what everybody says.”
Here is the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Braves in Atlanta. Jesús Luzardo is making his third start of the season. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach.
- Kyle Schwarber, DH
- Trea Turner, SS
- Bryce Harper, 1B
- Nick Castellanos, RF
- Max Kepler, LF
- J.T. Realmuto, C
- Alec Bohm, 3B
- Bryson Stott, 2B
- Brandon Marsh, CF

Thomson is as dumb as a box of rocks. Of course you ride with Bohm for several months…he will come around. He is too good of a hitter not to….
So i will ask the question…why didn’t he give Turner among others parachutes last season when they succ’d for prolonged periods of time?

I’d rather have Sosa at third. Atleast he’s not pouting and throwing his equipment like a baby like bohm. Oh yeah, and he’s a better fielder than bohm.

BEEBS,
Bohm couldn’t carry Turner’s jock. Whatever Bohm had accomplished in 2023-’24 (97 rbi) was a product of his position in the batting order. Sit him down, trade him, or hold him and let him walk in free agency

Phillies are lucky to have an8-4 record, we have a weak bull pen, poor outfield, and players hitting 240 and lower. As a fan for 65 years we kept hearing how the organization is pursuing certain pitchers, 3rd baseman, and outfielders but we are always too late in picking them up. The team keeps basement bargains and given up quality players from the farm for what, nothing in return.
Lastly, Sosa was carrying the team and Skip took him out while he was hot, ride the horse until he slows down. JT and Trea have been terrible except for a few bright hits, start making trades for proven player or we will be playing lower then 500 by the end of April
