Final Score: Phillies 7, Marlins 4
For the first time since Sept. 27-29, 2019, the Philadelphia Phillies have won a series against the Miami Marlins.
After winning the on a walk-off home run from J.T. Realmuto to start the day after Saturday’s game was suspended, the Phillies offense continued to churn. The Phillies are now 47-45 and remain two games behind the New York Mets for first place in the NL East.
The Phillies struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Ronald Torreyes singled and Luke Williams walked, and Wheeler bunted them to second. Then, Torreyes scored on a passed ball and J.T. Realmuto, the hero of the earlier game, singled home Williams to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.
This lead did not last long, however. The Marlins exploded for four runs in the top of the third, capped by a two-run home run from Adam Duvall.
After a couple quiet innings, the Phillies struck back in the bottom of the fifth. Andrew McCutchen and Didi Gregorius both hit solo home runs and suddenly, the game was tied.
The Phillies added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Travis Jankowski and Brad Miller hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning, and both scored following a Jean Segura sacrifice fly and Andrew McCutchen ground out.
The Phillies added on in the bottom of the eighth, when Jankowski reached on a bunt single and came around to score on an RBI hit from Realmuto.
Hector Neris came in to record the save, and the Phillies finished out with a win to continue their solid play coming out of the All-Star break.
