Mets’ Double-A affiliate coaching staff is filled with former Phillies

The New York Mets announced their full season affiliate coaching staffs for the 2022 season. It was previously announced that Reid Brignac, who played 37 games for the Phillies in 2014, was promoted to manager of the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies after serving as manager of the Low-A Port St. Lucie Mets in 2021.

With Brignac’s promotion, he brought two of his 2021 coaches from Port St. Lucie with him. Former Phillies first baseman Tommy Joseph will serve as the Rumble Ponies hitting coach while Jerome Williams, who pitched for the Phillies from 2014 to 2015, will be the pitching coach.

The final member of the staff is Mariano Duncan, who was part of the 1993 Phillies team that won the National League pennant. He’ll serve as the Rumble Ponies bench coach after holding the same position for the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones in 2021. Duncan has worked as a minor league coach since 2003, with a stint as the Dodgers first base coach from 2006 to 2010 under Grady Little and Joe Torre.

Duncan previously coached with Williams on the Kingsport Mets in 2019. Brignac, Williams and Joseph were all in the Phillies organization in 2014.

All of these connections have led to the Mets coincidentally assembling a minor league coaching staff of former Phillies.
