Bryce Harper is testing out his arm again. He has begun a throwing program, according to Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Harper is playing light catch from 55 to 60 feet. It’s the first time he’s tested out his arm since the first week of May. There’s no guarantee that Harper will return to right field this season, but it’s a good sign that Harper is healthy enough to resume throwing.

What’s more certain is that Harper will eventually return to the lineup as the designated hitter. He has also resumed swinging a bat and taking some swings off a tee, Rob Thomson told reporters in Atlanta.

John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia said he’s hearing “the hope is Harper is back in two to three weeks.”

Harper, 29, underwent a PRP injection on May 15 after it was revealed he suffered a small tear in his right UCL. Per Lauber, Harper had to wait until the three pins were removed from his thumb to resume throwing. Doing so beforehand would have risked infection.

He’s been on the injured list since June 26 after fracturing his left thumb on a hit-by-pitch. The Phillies are reportedly hopeful that Jean Segura will come off the injured list on Thursday. He’s been out since June 1 after fracturing his finger on a bunt attempt.
