Trea Turner is starting to get it going at the plate. He’s got three hits in the series against the Dodgers, including a home run on Tuesday and a first-inning double in the first inning of Wednesday’s series finale.
He also made an insane play that ultimately kept a run off the board in the bottom of the first. The leadoff batter Mookie Betts hit a ground ball deep into the hole. Turner backhanded the ball, leaped in the air and threw out the speedy Betts for the first out. The next batter Freddie Freeman doubled to right. Betts would have easily scored from first if he was safe on the previous play.
The throw was reminiscent of Derek Jeter’s famous jump play in the 1998 ALCS.
The Phillies currently have a 1-0 lead on the Dodgers in the top of the second inning.
