The Phillies are getting shut out and the Rockies’ Austin Gomber is making it look easy.
As Tom McCarthy said on the broadcast, no Phillies batter has seen more than six pitches in an at-bat as of the middle of the sixth inning.
Up until the sixth, Taijuan Walker was also cruising. He needed just 50 pitches to get through five innings, but he had some help from one of his outfielders to get out of the fifth.
With two men out and a runner on, Ezequiel Tovar hit a fly ball to right field. Nick Castellanos came in and made the signature on-the-run sliding grab we’ve gotten used to seeing out of him. He slid, reached out to his left and caught the ball behind his back. His defensive improvement this season has been dramatic.
The Phillies are currently down 1-0 to the Rockies in the top of the seventh.
