Charlie Manuel continues to make progress following stroke

Some more positive updates regarding former Phillies manager Charlie Manuel have been released over the last 24 hours.

The Phillies broadcast announced during Monday night’s game that Manuel was moved out of the intensive care unit. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com added that Manuel listened to get well soon messages from former players and watched the finale of the Phillies-Cardinals series on Sunday. Manuel, according to Zolecki, spent the day on Monday speaking with family and friends.

Manuel, 79, is the winningest manager in Phillies history. He led the team to five-straight National League East titles from 2007 to 2011. The Phillies won the 2008 World Series and 2009 National League pennant with Manuel as manager.

Manuel suffered a stroke while undergoing a medical procedure in Florida on Saturday. The Phillies said doctors were able to attend to Manuel immediately.

“The Manuel family is very appreciative for every post on social media,” the Phillies said in a statement on Sunday. “Charlie feels the love from his Phillies family and fans. [Charlie’s wife] Missy believes the incredible support is aiding in his recovery.”
