The Phillies announced Thursday that bullpen coach Dave Lundquist and assistant hitting coach Jason Camilli will not return in 2024.
The remainder of the coaching staff, which includes hitting coach Kevin Long, pitching coach Caleb Cotham, infield coach Bobby Dickerson, first base coach Paco Figueroa and third base coach Dusty Wathan, will return next season.
“We just want to tweak some responsibilities. Get new voices,” manager Rob Thomson said on Thursday in the team’s end-of-year press conference. “Those two guys, [Lundquist] has been here a long time and he did a tremendous job. [Camilli] has been here two years, did a tremendous job. I’m sure they’re gonna find jobs someplace else.”
Thomson did not get into specifics when asked to elaborate on tweaking responsibilities.
Lundquist, 50, was named Phillies bullpen coach in January 2021. He joined the major league coaching staff in 2018 as an assistant pitching coach. His first year in the organization was 2008, when he served as pitching coach for the Lakewood BlueClaws.
Camilli, 48, was hired as assistant hitting coach under Long prior to the 2022 season. He spent nine seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization as a minor league hitting coach from 2012 to 2020 before he was hired as a developmental coach in the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2021.
