The 2025 Baseball Writers Association of America Hall of Fame ballot was released Monday afternoon and features four former Phillies: Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Bobby Abreu and Billy Wagner.
Of the four, Wagner has the best chance of earning election into the Hall of Fame this year. Wagner, the Phillies’ closer from 2004 to 2005, is entering his tenth and final season on the ballot. He received 73.8% of the vote in his ninth year on the ballot in 2024, five votes shy of the 75% threshold needed for election.
Utley debuted on the ballot in 2024 at 28.8%. He’s a long shot to reach the 75% mark in 2025. Like Wagner, if Utley is elected to the Hall of Fame, it’s going to be a slow climb. The same goes for Rollins, though Utley has a better chance of getting into the Hall of Fame through the BBWAA ballot. In his fourth season on the ballot, Rollins finished with 14.8% of the vote in 2024. Rollins’ former teammate Bobby Abreu finished with an identical vote tally. Abreu is entering year seven on the ballot.
Debuting on this year’s ballot are Ichiro Suzuki and CC Sabathia. Both have a good chance of becoming first ballot Hall of Famers. Suzuki could become only the second unanimous Hall of Famer in the sport’s history. Other first timers include Felix Hernandez, Dustin Pedroia and Ian Kinsler.
The BBWAA Hall of Fame ballot voting electorate is made up of members of the BBWAA who have been covering baseball for at least 10 years. Voters can select up to 10 names on each ballot and must postmark their ballots by Dec. 31. The results will be announced on January 21 at 6 p.m. ET live on MLB Network.
Here is the full ballot:
Bobby Abreu, Carlos Beltrán, Mark Buehrle, Carlos González, Curtis Granderson, Félix Hernández, Torii Hunter, Adam Jones, Andruw Jones, Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin, Brian McCann, Dustin Pedroia, Andy Pettitte, Hanley Ramírez, Manny Ramírez, Fernando Rodney, Álex Rodríguez, Francisco Rodríguez, Jimmy Rollins, CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Troy Tulowitzki, Chase Utley, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner, David Wright, Ben Zobrist.
Dick Allen is once again up for election. He is on the 2025 Classic Baseball Era Committee ballot. A committee will cast their votes at the Winter Meetings in Dallas and the results will be announced on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLB Network.
