Philadelphia expects to be one of the next teams to meet with superstar free agent Juan Soto, according to a Tuesday morning report.
The big-spending Phillies have not held a meeting with Soto at this point in the offseason, but “plan to” do so, according to The New York Post‘s Jon Heyman. While maybe not the favorite to land the four-time All-Star, Philadelphia has been one of the most active clubs when it comes to big-ticket free agents in recent years.
Soto, a generational left-handed hitter, is a free agent after spending this year with the New York Yankees. Debuting as a 19-year-old, winning a World Series with the Nationals just days after turning 21 and hitting the open market at age 26 with seven dominant seasons under his belt and a career .953 OPS, Soto is due for a major contract.
According to MLB.com‘s Mark Feinsand, Soto has met with the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Mets and was set to meet with the Dodgers as well. Heyman also reported Tuesday that these meetings have been more of an introduction than a contract negotiation.
The Phillies, if all goes to plan, will soon have their turn to say hello to Juan Soto.
