Brad Lidge moves on to the Washington Nationals on a one-year, $1 million deal. He spent four seasons in Philadelphia and was integral in the 2008 World Championship as he went 48-for-48 in save opportunities that season, which is something the fans in this town will never forget.
Injuries have wrecked his career as of late, but Washington decided to take a flier on him to help guide a young bullpen down in D.C. Lidge is one of the nicest people, baseball or not, and is filled with the wisdom of nearly a decade in the majors.
Lidge reportedly received a low-ball offer from the Phillies to stay in town, so he decided to take the better financial deal rather than try to make the team on a minor-league contract.
We wish Brad well in Washington, except for when he faces the Phillies. Can anyone else feel the remnants of 2008 slowly slipping away? Kinda depressing if you think about it…
