Dobbs Searching For Answers At Plate

DobbsWhile we toss barbs at Jimmy Rollins, another hitter is off to a poor start in 2009. Last night, Greg Dobbs had a key RBI opportunity as a pinch hitter, but hit into yet another out.

His 2009 numbers: 28 AB / 0 HR / 3 RBI / 6 K / .143 AVG / .200 OBP / .143 SLG

That .143 slugging mark means all of his hits (four) have been singles. Not the Dobbsie we’re used to. This might be a case of not getting enough playing time – Dobbs has started two games this season; this time last year, he’d already started 10 games – but that’s what you get when Pedro Feliz is hitting the cover off the ball.

Still, Dobbs’ struggles undercut what has been a poor bench effort in 2009. Besides Matt Stairs (.389 AVG, 2 HR, 7 RBI), the bench has been very bad.
