Marlins Win in Walk-Off Fashion to Take Series

A swing off the bat of Marlon Byrd shifted the momentum towards the Phillies side during the eighth inning, but that feeling was quickly dimished.  The Phillies lost the series finale to the Miami Marlins, 4-3, as the Fish won in walk-off fashion.

Overall, Cole Hamels pitched stellar.  He cruised through the first five innings without any problems.  The Marlins finally got to him in the sixth inning on Giancarlo Stanton’s RBI single.  In the seventh inning, Miguel Ozuna struck once again with a homer off Hamels.  Ozuna gave the Phillies trouble most of the series: On Wednesday, he drove in five runs, including a grand slam.  On Thursday, he added two more RBIs after a two-run shot.

Hamels finished the day with a decent line.  In seven innings, he surrendered the three runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out six in the no-decision.

The Phillies trailed 3-0 headed into the eighth inning.  Jimmy Rollins led off the inning with a walk, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly.  Then, with a man on and one out, Marlon Byrd sailed a pitched over the 418′ sign in center field.  All of a sudden, the game was locked at three.

It didn’t take long for the Marlins to regain momentum and come back.  With Jake Diekman on the mound, the Marlins loaded the bases. With two outs, Christian Yelich grounded up the middle to bring in the run and the victory.

The Phillies’ late comeback fell short as they dropped the series to the Marins, 1-2.  The Fightins will head home for a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
