Is it worth it to trade Odubel Herrera?

943d1ff6501031597514492da9401d92Good morning! The Indians won Game 1 of the World Series 6-0, as Corey Kluber shut down the Cubs. Otherwise, not much news today …

  • Kevin Cooney looks at the possibilities of an Odubel Herrera trade. Certainly, he writes, Herrera would be an attractive trade chip – as one scout told him – but General Manager Matt Klentak says Herrera was quite valuable for the Phillies, and that kind of value is hard to replicate.

I think Klentak has it right, even mentioning that Herrera was a three-win player (actually a four-win player) at a skill defensive position and, most impressively, as a second-year player plucked from the Rule 5. Trading that kind of value, especially when the rest of your team has so many question marks, is a fool’s errand. Herrera is a piece to build around.

  • Look at what the Phils could do in the outfield this offseason with my preview. I suggest Michael Saunders (good combination of affordability, flexibility and potential), but a few other options make sense. Today the preview continues with a look at how to fix the bullpen.
