Good morning! Eight years ago today we waited as Major League Baseball kept a suspension over Game 5 of the World Series. And we planned. Oh we planned.
To the news:
- Speaking of reliving history, the story of the Phillies fans disrupting the Rays in between Game 5 and Game 5.5 has resurfaced, since Joe Maddon’s Cubs and Indians are dealing with a potentially rainy World Series. Always fun to relive that.
- As we noted Thursday, both Freddy Galvis and Odubel Herrera were named finalists for Rawlings Gold Glove awards.
Neither will win, but both deserve nominations. Galvis, certainly, had a great year at shortstop but isn’t quite Brandon Crawford or even Addison Russell (at least in reputation). Herrera, meanwhile, pales in defensive skill compared to Ender Inciarte and Billy Hamilton, but he has made some great strides since taking on the position. Put it this way: We could have Ben Revere out there still.
- Slow news week, but plenty of pontificating. Check out our Offseason Preview, which looks at three important places the Phils need to address – outfield, starting rotation, bullpen. I’ll sum all of it up today.
