Time to check in on the farm system after a week of all-star breaks and rainy weather.

LEHIGH VALLEY

Highlights:

  • Scott Kingery: .300/.323/.533, 6 XBH, 15 K, 4 BB, 60 AB
  • J.P. Crawford: .214/.328/.338, 19 XBH, 57 K, 50 BB, 290 AB
  • Jesen Therrien: 23.2 IP, 1.52 ERA, 22 K, 4 BB

A light week for the Pigs that included the all-star break (Jorge Alfaro, Rhys Hoskins and Tom Eshelman played). Crawford is hitting much better over the last month or so, as the average slowly climbs away from the Mendoza Line.

READING

Highlights:

  • Zachary Coppola: .266/.354/.309, 5 XBH, 24 K, 20 BB, 139 AB
  • Mitch Walding: .236/.333/.539, 35 XBH, 100 K, 35 BB, 267 AB
  • Drew Anderson: 83.1 IP, 3.56 ERA, 71 K, 27 BB
  • Victor Arano: 18.2 IP, 1.93 ERA, 16 K, 3 BB

At 51-39 the Fightins’ would be the top team in the Eastern League’s Western Division, but instead they’re 9.5 games behind Trenton in the Eastern. Walding was named Eastern League Player of the Month for June, smacking 13 home runs in that month to bring his total to 21. Arano is firing on all cylinders after an injury kept him out until the end of May. Meanwhile fellow reliever Yacksel Rios has moved up to Lehigh Valley.

CLEARWATER

Highlights:

A 3-3 week for the Threshers. Encarnacion is back in Williamsport, while Randolph continues to improve at the plate, showing good discipline while bumping his average into respectability.

LAKEWOOD

Highlights:

More good pitching from the ol’ Claws. Every Sanchez start is now an event, with multiple members of the media penning some sort of wide-eyed recap (he was good this week). Moniak may be “struggling” in Lakewood, but don’t fret about the 19-year-old having a relatively normal year in low-A.

WILLIAMSPORT

Highlights:

  • Adam Haseley: .347/.431/.490, 5 XBH, 10 K, 7 BB, 49 AB
  • Jake Scheiner: .288/.356/.439, 8 XBH, 14 K, 4 BB, 66 AB
  • Kyle Young: 23.1 IP, 1.16 ERA, 30 K, 6 BB
  • Julian Garcia: 21 IP, 1.29 ERA, 30 K, 7 BB

The Crosscutters had a weird, wet week in Norwich, Connecticut. Now they’re back home and winning. 2017 fourth-round pick Scheiner is putting up good numbers thus far (he plays third base).

ROOKIE LEAGUES

Highlights:

A pretty good first 30 at bats for Nieporte in the GCL. Rosso looks like the star arm in the Phils’ DSL operation thus far.
