An invitation from our friends at Shibe Vintage Sports…
The Athletics are back in Philadelphia! The Oakland A’s and the Philadelphia Phillies play the weekend of Sept. 15-17 so we figured what better time to celebrate the history of the Philadelphia Athletics – the city’s most successful franchise!
First off, all weekend we’ll have select Philadelphia Phillies and A’s hats and shirts on sale. You’ll also be able to view vintage 1930-50s scorecards from “City Series” games when Philly used to host annual contests between the Phillies and the A’s. Additionally, the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame is loaning us several pieces of Athletics memorabilia to display throughout the weekend. Plus, you’ll have the chance to sit in several of our original seats from Connie Mack Stadium / Shibe Park.
RSVP here for free on Facebook!
On Saturday, September 16 at 4pm we will welcome Penn Professor of History Bruce Kuklick as he discusses his book To Every Thing a Season: Shibe Park and Urban Philadelphia, 1909-1976. We’ll also have Scott Alberstadt, a member of the modern-day Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia, here to discuss early baseball rules and show folks what uniforms looked like in the 1860s.
Admission to the discussion on Sept. 16 is free and refreshments will be provided. A’s memorabilia and the hat sale will be available Friday through Sunday. Hope to see you then – and don’t forget to RSVP!
