Good morning! Here’s the news:
JAKE AND THE FIT MAN: Jake Arrieta is one of the most health- and body-conscious players in baseball. He and Gabe Kapler should get along well, says Cubs manager Joe Maddon.
The Phillies introduced Arrieta Tuesday to a throng of media. I have more on what it all means.
MEANWHILE: The Phillies won with a walkoff Tuesday against Tampa Bay. Jesmuel Valentin clubbed a three-run dinger to win it. Drew Hutchison pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three runs but striking out five, but the big story was Tom Eshelman, who went 4.2 frames and gave up just two hits and walk. He struck out four.
Eshleman is a dark horse to make the 25-man roster, but it would mean a likely Nick Pivetta stint in triple-A. Hard to imagine, but it could happen.
DOMINGUEZ CUT: The Phils sent pitcher Seranthony Dominguez to minor league camp after the game. The flamethrower impressed during his time in camp and could be back with the club later this year.
TODAY’S GAME: The Phillies face the Braves at 1 p.m. The lineup:
- Hernandez (2B)
- Herrera (CF)
- Florimon (SS)
- Alfaro (C)
- Flaherty (RF)
- Cowgill (LF)
- Rosales (1B)
- Lively (SP)
- Crawford (3B)
It’s the second time Kapler has hit the pitcher while putting Crawford in the nine-hole; looks like something he may do in the regular season.
