Earlier this week I had the great fortune of attending the third MLB All-Star game in my lifetime. My first, of course, was the 1996 classic at beloved Veterans Stadium, when Brady Anderson took home the HR Derby crown and the NL shutout the AL 6-0. I also attended the game in 2013 at Citi Field in New York when the Phillies were last represented by more than one player (Domonic Brown and Cliff Lee) and the AL returned the favor with a 3-0 victory.
With those previous experiences in mind, I have to say, this season’s mid-summer classic was certainly the most entertaining. Phillies fans were delighted to see Rhys Hoskins’ solid performance in the Derby, as well as Aaron Nola’s strong inning of relief. As a baseball fan in general, the drama of the derby and the insanity of 10 home runs in an extra-inning game solidified another fun trip down to Nationals Park for Phillies Nation.
