The Philadelphia Phillies-New York Mets matchup Monday night, of course, will take a backseat to another matchup between Philadelphia and New York City – Game 2 of the Philadelphia 76ers-Brooklyn Nets first-round playoff series. Considering how the Sixers looked in Game 1 of the series, though, it’s fair to wonder if Phillies and Mets won’t be the better game.
Two of the game’s best arms – Aaron Nola and Noah Syndergaard – will square off at Citizens Bank Park Monday evening. Neither is off to an especially encouraging start to their 2019 season, Nola specifically, so it will be an interesting matchup in that regard.
Additionally, the Phillies enter a three-game set against the Mets with a slight lead in the National League East. The Phillies are 9-5, which puts them a half game above both the Mets and Washington Nationals, who are 9-6. The National League East, as expected, looks like one of baseball’s deepest divisions.
