Phillies to interview Dusty Baker for managerial position, per report

According to Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune, the Phillies will interview Dusty Baker for their vacant managerial spot.

During his 22-year managerial career, Baker has managed the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals.Baker has a career record of 1,863-1,636, has won seven division titles and led the Giants to a World Series appearance in 2002. He was named Manager of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 2000.

It is notable that during Baker’s most recent stint in Washington, he managed Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper. Reports following Baker’s firing said that the superstar may have not been a fan of his manager.

While Phillies brass did not reveal what kind of manager they would be searching for, some, including MLB.com‘s Jon Morosi, have indicated that the team is looking for an experienced manager to take the helm. Phillies President Andy MacPhail was the Cubs CEO when they hired Baker in 2003.

Baker is the first name confirmed as an interviewee for the Phillies recently-opened managerial position after they fired Gabe Kapler on Thursday.
