There are just nine days until pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater for Spring Training, and the Philadelphia Phillies are still making additions to round at the bottom of the roster.

According to MassLive.com‘s Chris Cotillo, the Phillies have signed veteran utility player Logan Forsythe to a minor-league contract.

Forsythe, 33, has played nine major league seasons, spending time with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers. Last season, Forsythe hit .227/.325/.353 in 101 games for the Rangers, spending time at all four infield positions.

While he is not the same player who hit .273/.347/.444 from 2015-16 in Tampa Bay, Forsythe’s positional versatility offers value to the Phillies roster. As things stand right now, the Phillies have Jay Bruce, Roman Quinn and Andrew Knapp locked into spots on the bench in 2020. Forsythe will be competing with Josh Harrison, Neil Walker and Phil Gosselin for the infield utility role with the major league club.

The Phillies appear to be done making any big moves, but they continue to give minor league deals with Spring Training invites to veteran players. These players will begin to compete for spots on the major league roster soon, with Spring Training games beginning in less than three weeks.
