Rubén Amaro Jr. reportedly will join NBC Sports Philadelphia as analyst

Rubén Amaro Jr. is making a return to Philadelphia — this time as a media member instead of a front office executive.

Bob Brookover of The Philadelphia Inquirer has reported that the former Phillies general manager will be be an analyst for NBC Sports Philadelphia this season. He also reports that Amaro will likely be taking a position at SportsRadio 94 WIP.

Best known for his time as general manager, Amaro had two stints as a Phillies player before joining the front office. He was named general manager ahead of the 2009 season, and his team made the postseason in his first three seasons. The later stages of his tenure were not as successful. The team did not have a winning record from 2012 through his last season in 2015. The Phillies let Amaro go in September of 2015, but not before he dealt away many of the core pieces from the 2008 World Series championship team in an attempt to help kick-start a rebuild.

Amaro has served as the first base coach for the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets since his time with the Phillies. In 2019, he served as an advisor to Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen.

Having been a player, executive and coach in the past, Amaro will take on his fourth type of baseball position with NBC Sports Philadelphia, now analyzing the team that he once ran.
