Phillies add Scott Kingery, 3 other players to 10-day injured list

Only July 1, the Phillies moved four big-league players to the injured list. Scott Kingery, Héctor Neris, Ranger Suárez and Tommy Hunter were all placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive June 30. It’s unclear as of now why they have been added to the list.

On June 19, NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury reported that eight members of the Phillies organization tested positive for COVID-19, including five players. Four days later, additional test results came in. Four additional members of the organization, including two players, also tested positive. Six players with the virus were working out at the team’s facilities in Clearwater.

Under federal law, teams are not allowed to disclose the names of individual players who test positive. However, if a player is placed on the injured list without explanation, questions arise as to whether or not that player tested positive or not.

For the 2020 season, MLB has also designated a COVID-19 related injured list. Players who either tested positive for the virus or have been exposed to someone who tested positive can be placed on that specific list. There is no minimum stay requirement for players on the list. When a player is placed on the COVID-19 list, it will be announced as a typical stay on the injured list.
