[caption id="attachment_33853" align="alignright" width="237" caption="Congrats to Jimmy Rollins on his 2,000th hit."][/caption] With a double in the fifth inning off Reds starter Mat Latos, Jimmy Rollins became the fourth Phillies hitter to collect 2,000 hits in their career. The other three are Mike Schmidt, Richie Ashburn, and Ed Delahanty. All three of which are in the baseball Hall of Fame. Rollins would need just 235 more hits to take over first place from Schmidt. The short stop already has 134 hits this season but has only collected more than 200 hits one time in his career. For the current Phillies, Rollins joins Juan Pierre (2,123) and Placido Polanco (2,044) as current roster players with at least 2,00o hits. And for those who care, the next closest is Chase Utley with 1,248. So amongst the excitement from Rollins, the rest of the Phillies couldn't get much working against Latos. The Reds right went seven innings, allowed just the one run and struck out six. The Cincinnati bullpen pitched two scoreless innings to secure the 2-1 victory. The fourth inning was a bit fuzzy, a little confusing and the NFL replacement refs out there had no idea what was going on. The Phillies had bases loaded after a Chase Utley double, a Ryan Howard HBP, and John Mayberry Jr. walk. Domonic Brown got the lone RBI with a bases loaded walk that scored Utley. After this, the umps really made a push for instant replay on traps in the outfield. In your box score it will go down as a line out/double play. An 8-4 if you will. The replay could show otherwise, which left a lot of people scratching their heads after it was all said and done. Either way, the Phillies manage only the one run and strand a couple runners. Kyle Kendrick, again, proved that he might actually have a spot in this rotation next year. It's amazing the righty has 18 decisions this season taking the loss tonight (8-10). Kendrick allowed a two run homer to Jay Bruce in the sixth. For those playing fantasy, it was Bruce's 31st home run of the season. Justin De Fratus pitched a third of inning tonight in relief for the Phillies. After he walked the bases loaded, he got Scott Rolen to fly out to right to end the inning. With this loss, the Phillies are still six games under .500 and 8.5 games back in the Wild Card. Nothing is done until it's done and the Phillies have been playing better of late. Don't strike me down, just don't give up quite yet.
