Nick Castellanos is back off the injured list. (John Adams/Icon Sportswire) The Philadelphia Phillies have reinstated outfielder Nick Castellanos from the 10-day injured list. A right oblique strain has kept him off the field since Sept. 2. In a corresponding move, catcher Donny Sands was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Castellanos took batting practice on the field over the weekend. The Phillies also wanted to get Castellanos on the field in Chicago during the off day Monday. When asked what more he needed to see out of Castellanos to activate him, Rob Thomson said Sunday morning,"Nothing, really. Just make sure he comes out of this stuff." Don't expect Castellanos to play every day from the get go. He opted not to go on a rehab outing, telling reporters, "My philosophy is the sooner I can get back into a game that’s important, the better.” He's only been on the injured list three times in his major league career. His first injury, a fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand, took a month to heal and Castellanos could not play in minor league games because the season had already ended. He avoided a rehab outing last season after fracturing his wrist. The injury kept him out of the Reds lineup for nearly two weeks. With Matt Vierling, Dalton Guthrie and Nick Maton all on the roster, the Phillies have options when they need to give Castellanos a day off. It's been a while since Castellanos has had regular playing time. Turf toe kept him out of the Diamondbacks series from Aug. 29-31. He was finally beginning to heat up after a three-month long cold streak. He slashed .300/.333/.500 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in the month of August. Castellanos' presence certainly lengthens the order. Here's how they line up for the crucial series opener against Chicago.
