The Phillies reportedly hired a new minor-league field coordinator on Tuesday. (Cheryl Pursell) The overhaul of the Phillies player development system has taken another step, as the organization reportedly selected a new minor-league field coordinator on Tuesday. Longtime coach and instructor Kevin Bradshaw will take the position for the Phillies, according to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia. He has prior experience in the role, serving as Detroit's minor-league field coordinator in 2011 and 2012. Bradshaw will replace Chris Truby, who spent three seasons as Phillies minor-league field coordinator. Prior to his first go-around as field coordinator, Bradshaw, 58, played four seasons in the Tigers system before beginning to coach for the organization in 1990. He then managed 14 seasons for Tigers affiliates starting in 1994. Bradshaw became the minor-league defensive coordinator for Detroit in 2008, staying in that role until he became the field coordinator. He resumed the defensive coordinator position in 2013 and 2014. Joining the Orioles the next season as minor-league infield coordinator, Bradshaw began coaching again in 2016 with the Gulf Coast League Orioles. He stayed in the Baltimore organization through the 2021 season, managing short-season Aberdeen in 2017 and 2019 -- he missed the 2018 season with an injury -- and the Florida Complex League Orioles Black in 2021. Bradshaw served as the coordinator for Orioles minor-league spring training in 2019 and for fall instructionals in 2020. The addition of Bradshaw is the latest in a number of changes the Phillies have made under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski in an attempt to improve a player development that has struggled to produce impactful talent. Preston Mattingly was hired as farm director in September to lead the player development system after Josh Bonifay was demoted in August. Bonifay has since been hired by the Rangers. Former assistant general managers Scott Proefrock and Bryan Minniti were also ousted from their respective positions at the same time as Bonifay. Minniti had overseen player development. The Phillies hired a new assistant general manager earlier this month in Ani Kilambi, a 27-year-old who served as Rays assistant director of research and development. Bradshaw is the second addition made to the player development staff under Mattingly this offseason, as Anthony Contreras was named the new Triple-A manager earlier this month as well.
