Cole Hamels will be a part-time Phillies broadcaster in 2025, per Jim Salisbury. (Grace Del Pizzo/Phillies Nation) Expect to see more of Phillies legend Cole Hamels in 2025. Jim Salisbury of PHLY Sports reported that Hamels will be in camp with the Phillies as a guest instructor. He is also expected to be a part-time contributor on Phillies television broadcasts on NBC Sports Philadelphia during the regular season. Hamels officially retired as a Phillie in June after a stellar 15-year career that began with Philadelphia in 2006 and ended with multiple failed comeback attempts. At the time, he expressed an interest in coaching. An appearance in spring training could be a good starting point for Hamels, who spent the final days of his career mentoring young pitchers as he battled injuries. It will be interesting to see if the Phillies pair Hamels with top prospect Andrew Painter. Painter, like Hamels, is a first-round pick out of high school coming back from a major injury and is expected to debut in the middle of the season with huge fanfare. Hamels could be the perfect mentor for Painter as the young right-hander manages massive expectations and pressure that comes with being a heralded pitching prospect. Hamels could also be the perfect fit on the Phillies broadcast. It's unclear exactly how many games Hamels will call and if any of the other color commentators, John Kruk, Ben Davis, Rubén Amaro Jr. and Mike Schmidt, are expected to significantly scale back their dates. Kruk calls a majority of the Phillies' 81 home games with play-by-play man Tom McCarthy. Schmidt appears mostly on Sunday afternoon broadcasts. Davis and Amaro Jr. call most road games with McCarthy.
