According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Marlins are promoting former Phillies top prospect Sixto Sanchez. Sixto Sanchez pitching as a member of the Clearwater Threshers. (Brandon Apter/Phillies Nation) Sanchez, 22, was signed out of the Dominican Republic for $35,000 in February of 2015. He entered 2017 as the No. 1 pitching prospect in the organization and the No. 1 overall Phillies prospect in 2018, according to MLB.com. In 2018, Sanchez posted a 4-3 record with a 2.70 ERA in eight starts with the Clearwater Threshers. He was shutdown in June after sustaining an elbow injury and less than a year later, he was sent to Miami in the J.T. Realmuto trade. Sanchez was incredible down the stretch for the Double-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 2019, throwing four consecutive scoreless outings from July 23 to Aug. 10. Surprisingly enough, Sanchez was not called up by the Marlins when the team was short of arms during their COVID-19 outbreak. According to Heyman, Sanchez has been hitting 100 mph on the radar gun regularly at the Marlins' alternate training site. He'll join a Marlins pitching staff that's already loaded up with young arms with high upside.
