According to Ken Rosenthal and Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the Phillies have acquired RHP David Phelps from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Phillies are sending two or three low-level prospects to Milwaukee, according to Gelb. The Phillies have made a move before the 4 pm trade deadline. (Destiny Lugardo/Phillies Nation) Phelps, 33, is having an impressive year with the Brewers. In 12 appearances, he has a 2.77 ERA. Nine of those appearances were scoreless outings. He is controllable beyond this year as he has an affordable $4.5 million team option for 2021. Phelps is a much-needed addition for the Phillies considering they are short on lefty specialists. While Phelps himself is a right-handed reliever, his splits against lefties have been phenomenal: https://twitter.com/jaysonst/status/1300517470961311746 Phelps, a former Yankee, also played for Joe Girardi for three seasons and is considered to be a favorite of his. This year's trade deadline is at 4:00 pm ET. Girardi will address the Philadelphia media shortly afterwards. We'll have more information on this story as it becomes available.
