I know, you have had a busy week. You haven’t been able to keep up with all the Phillies happenings. You must be so upset. Don’t worry, we here at Phillies Nation have you covered. Every Sunday you can check it with our Week in Review and see exactly what you missed the week before. So without further adieu….
It’s been a bit of a slow week for the Phillies. They did go out and resigned J.C. Romero to a one-year deal worth around $1.35 million plus some performance bonuses. This is a great pick up for the Phillies who just two months ago had declined the $4.5 million option for 2011 on Romero. In order to add Romero to the 40-man roster, the Phillies had DFA Sergio Escalona.
The Phils are still talking with Chad Durbin and his agent about possibly resigning the right hander. The Phillies have made a formal offer to Durbin earlier in the week and his representatives have made a counter offer back. Some other teams are looking at Durbin, but according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer he would prefer coming back to the Phillies.

Other news around the division:
The Braves stepped up their game this offseason trading away Omar Infante and Michael Dunn to acquire Dan Uggla, the slugging second baseman from the Marlins. Earlier this week Atlanta finalized a five-year contract extension with Uggla worth $62 million.
The Nationals have also been very busy since the Winter Meetings. Aside from the Jayson Werth signing, the Nats have had their names linked to a lot of big name players. They missed out on Zack Greinke (apparently it was about winning) and looks like Carl Pavano won’t be playing in the Nation’s capital either. They did, however, manage to sign 1B Adam LaRoche to a two-year deal with a mutual option for 2013.
Adrian Beltre finally got the big contract he was after. The Rangers signed him to a deal worth $80 million over five years with a vesting option of $16 million for a sixth year. I mention this because it was just last offseason the Phillies offered Beltre a deal, but he chose to sign with Boston. After one year, he goes after the big money and gets it from Texas. The Phillies were unlikely to shell out that kind of money to bring Beltre to Philly. Plus, I like Placido Polanco better.
